I sense…everything

I thought I would write a post about my senses. I tend to be over-sensitive while my husband GA is under-sensitive. It does not mix well sometimes!

Sight - Well there, I have just made a liar out of myself! My sight isn’t that good. But I am sensitive to colour. Chartreuse (which is a greeny yellowy limey colour) can make me feel sick to my stomach and bring on a headache. Yellow is next in line there and it is a pity because it is such a cheerful colour. These colours are used in my blog, it is ok because they are in small amounts. If a car, t-shirt, paper, etc is chartreuse, bleugh. In shopping centres and crowds, etc, I can get visually overwhelmed. Sometimes it affects me to the point where I have to look at the floor and nowhere else. The quickest way to overload is a busy shopping centre. Just…. too much everywhere.

I have a lot of trouble with depth, I have no perception of it. So driving is just pure luck. That was a joke!!!

Steps and uneven ground, I have trouble with. Also, flat ground where there are stripes and shadows. Here, I think the ground is uneven when it really isn’t. So I tentatively take steps and get left behind if I am with someone. :P

Hearing - Pretty sensitive. Especially to mobile phones ringing, cicada sounds, babies crying, children screaming, sirens/alarms. Any high-pitched noise really. I find low, bass sounds soothing.

I can get very mixed up if someone is talking to me and another conversation starts up nearby. The voices seem to merge and then they don’t make sense at all. I remember going to a nightclub with a friend and I had no chance of talking to anyone in there. I didn’t understand anyone. I still wonder how relationships start in places like that!

Taste - Bland for the win! GA is the opposite he likes to taste a lot of foods at once. Personally, I don’t like a flavour explosion in my mouth. I prefer to eat one sort of food at a time as well.

An example. Hotdogs. GA will add tomato sauce, cheese, onions, mustard. Me: tomato sauce.

I don’t mind mild curries. But I can’t handle chilli. I would rather not be in pain while I eat!

Smell - Everyone has a smell. It is unfortunate that I can tell this. :P Yes I am waaay oversensitive in this area. I think I was a bit of an embarrassment when I was little. “Pwoaargh! What’s that SMELL!”

Touch - Oversensitive again. To the point of getting violent when tickled.

Socks can be a real hassle. They have to be on just right. When I am in a hurry and put socks and shoes on fast and then I go out, if they aren’t on right…it is pretty much all I can think about. Don’t talk to me, I am thinking about how uncomfortable my socks are.

I am one of those people. I cut the tags out of my shirts.

I am also sensitive to what other people touch. So I am not completely selfish. I feel for other people. Someone rubbing their jeans, wood, rough surfaces, etc. Eeeargh. I shiver just to think about it.

***So there it is. Or I should say there they are. My senses and the great fun that they are. :)
